Aaron’s
Story
Aaron McClung exists to inspire and equip others to fulfill their God-given purpose. He began discovering his calling while in college, founding AM Agency in 1998 before graduating with a BFA in Communication Design from the University of North Texas. Aaron has refined his gifts and grown his company over the last two decades, serving businesses and nonprofits of all sizes, helping them learn and grow from his own experience integrating purpose into leadership, marketing, and culture solutions.
The Early
Journey
I was born and raised in Yukon, Oklahoma—home of the Millers and Garth Brooks. As the youngest of three kids, I grew up loving sports (yes, that little lump in the first photo above is me; so glad I eventually grew into that unusually long forehead). That passion quickly translated into drawing sports team logos and designing my own baseball cards—a fascination I later realized was actually called “graphic design.”
My family later moved to Coppell, Texas, where I graduated high school in 1994, leading me to the incredible design program at the University of North Texas (UNT). Since becoming a Christian early in life, my relationship with God had always been an important part of my life. However, I felt constantly torn: I was seemingly too quiet for pastoral ministry and too faith-driven for the artsy design world. I never felt like I fit perfectly in either.
That confusion vanished in 1999. Right before graduating from UNT, I married my wife, Tracy, and took a role as the graphic designer at First Baptist Church in Euless, TX. It all clicked. I realized I was uniquely wired to help organizations—business and ministries alike—create compelling, meaningful impact through design and brand messaging.
The Rocket
Takes Off
My entrepreneurial journey officially began in 1998 with freelance work for my former youth pastor. That quickly expanded to musical artists and worship resource companies like SPIN. The internet boom hit, and AM Agency took off. My very last class at UNT was my only formal introduction to website design, but that skill—combined with hard work—fueled explosive growth.
Tracy and I were both building foundations for our careers while in Denton, and before we knew it, I left my church role in 2001 to run AM Agency full-time. I was working 80-hour weeks and loving every minute of it. The rocket ship kept rising: we hired our first employee in 2005 (who worked out of our house!), quickly expanded into an office, and were recognized in 2009 by the SMU Cox School of Business as one of Dallas’s 100 fastest-growing businesses.
For nearly fifteen years, my focus was purely on the satisfaction of the craft—doing great work, delivering quality output, and achieving high growth.
Hitting
The Ceiling
Then, the growth plateaued. The rocket ship hit a ceiling, and for the first time, I couldn’t solve the problem with tactics. I realized industry shifts were only half the story; AM was having an identity crisis: What was our true purpose? Who were we serving most effectively?
After exhausting all my own strength and ideas, everything changed in 2017 when I joined a Christian business leaders group through Gateway Church. I learned that my business wasn’t mine — It was God’s, and that God has a vision for His business: to transform the lives of others in and through it. This led me to the conviction that I needed to be less transactional and more transformational with my customers and employees.
Activating
Purpose
That spiritual transformation was the moment AM Agency was truly reborn. I shared this new vision with my leadership team—a bold shift toward transformation—and we became more unified than ever.
This shift became the proprietary methodology: Ovrflo. Ovrflo bridges the gap between your external brand and your internal culture, creating a powerful synergy that unlocks unprecedented results. And yes, the rocket ship is rising again!
Today, Aaron is a sought-after speaker and author, helping executives and leaders stop feeling the frustration of the Purpose Activation Gap and implement the Ovrflo blueprint. He has refined his expertise over two decades, serving businesses and nonprofits of all sizes, helping them activate purpose to fuel exceptional growth and impact.
Aaron lives in North Richland Hills, Texas, with his wife, Tracy, and their two children, Miller and Ruby Kate.
